There is nothing more valuable or precious in this world than the older schoolmaster horse in my mind.
The horse with countless miles under hoof, those that carried their owners to victory, stood over them in times of tears, helped them gain confidence in their craft, and grow as a rider and human.
These horses may have been spunky dragons in their younger years, but over time become lifetime members of the family and watch over the next generation of riders.
Last week, we were able to work on one such special beast. A special 23 year old quarter horse gelding named Deuce owned by Dr. Nathalie Soloman who developed the Greene Pharmacist line of CBD products for humans and animals.
Nathalie acquired Deuce from her husband and they achieved many Roping awards and Saddles from his back.
While Deuce still maintains his roping side hustle, his most important job is caring for his new young rider Sophia. He does an excellent job, and makes no hesitation to flip a hoof at any horse that might approach his little girl in the arena.
I enjoy working on the older horse and observing the different expressions of their ever watchful eyes. As with all my bodywork horses we started with some quick pictures, and a full body sweep with the Furrizy to identify areas of comfort and concern before diving into the body work.
We practiced various bodywork modalities throughout our session and he definitely appreciated all the scratches and belly lifts. It was amazing the amount of change we could see in his body from one session.
